the 1st Biennale of Santorini (with review)

exhibitions

My first recollection of Santorini was an article in the National Geographic around 1974. The colourful houses that seemed to be built one on top of the other, climbing the perilous steep cliffs like giant steps seemed beyond magic.

3 paintings about dreams 1997 (note this is not the work submitted)

It greatly inspired and fascinated me.  My second memory of Santorini were  nightmare events that I had in 1975. The houses that were built so steep up the cliffs were crumbling down, and I was in such a house, until I woke up shaken. These dreams would reoccur like a nightly TV episode for a week or so, with the plot developing and expanding.
Today I am not sure if it was Santorini in the National Geographic; I can’t find a catalogue. But when I first traveled to Santorini with Sofia in 2001 I made a direct connection with my childhood memories.

In Sofia Kapnissi’s blog she writes +1 reason for visiting Santorini island this summer, with a link to a call for artists for the Santorini biennale. I did send in my application and a picture of a painting. This week I received news that my work has been selected. Thank you Sofia. YOu know that this is not the first time that you are looking out for me!

review: Unfortunately there is no catalogue or documentation (to my knowledge) of the 1st Santorini Biennale of Arts 2012. This amongst other points could be included in the learning curve for the organisers of 2014.
On the site I already see an improvement
Registration Cost → 450€ (payable under acceptance). Good job
